TRIAXCELL is new technology and
processes developed by
Conenor for
cast plastic films and sheets with cavitated three-axial structure.
Cavitated BOPP-films can
be manufactured in densities around 0,6 g/cm3
with existing technologies established in the market. In TRIAXCELL-
processes a
BOPP-film is made into a microcellular structure reducing the
density into half of the origin below 0,3 g/cm3 and resulting
considerable
weight savings beyond cavitated films to be obtained. It is not only the
weight reduction of microcellular BOPP-films that make them attractive but
new performance properties, like soft touch and electromechanical
behavior, are appealing to expand their use into new applications.
In TRIAXCELL diffusion
technique
the film structure is created by running
the MD-oriented film through a pressurized gas chamber where the
cavities become locally over pressurized at elevated temperature. Right
after the film is quickly oriented in a few seconds in line transverse
direction in a TRIAXCELL
TD-stretcher
with special design giving the
cavities a lens form - and resulting the cavities to form cells with the aid
of
the local internal over pressure. Films with different cell structures can be
made from very thin, say from 20 µm upwards. Equally multi-layer films
and sheets can be manufactured in the process. The process can be also
used for manufacturing the films equally from
pre-manufactured MD-
oriented as well as from cast film coils.
The novelty of the
technique is the fact that the existing line equipment
can be used as it is or with minor changes and consequently the new
investment is relatively low. PP-material grades commonly available in the
market are suitable to be used and no expensive additives are necessary.
Utilization of this
new technique on existing lines is highly attractive.
Besides of the new process know-how, also the special equipment, gas
chamber with integral sealings and line transverse direction orientation
stretcher, are engineered by Conenor and supplied when needed.
Conenor does not
manufacture or sell any commercial films & sheets by
itself but offers the TRIAXCELL process and machinery know-how for film
manufacturing companies world-wide. The first demonstration line
existing at Conenor in Finland is available for material and product trials
and sampling in dimensions : film width at die exit or premade coil 250
mm and maximum finished film width is 1600 mm depending on the used
transverse direction orientation ratio which can be freely adjusted on-line
to any value up to x9.
